I have a problem (which you probably won't care about)
February 13th 2008 12:03
I sure did make a lot of posts on this blog in the first month of it's existence. Things are going to be a lot slower from now on, unless I start making stupid 'Letter Of The Day' posts every second day. I'm reluctant to do that because I know that it's lame and annoying and I think I've already taken advantage of my quota for lame and annoying gimmick posts for the moment.
You see, about fourteen months ago I started to keep a list of books that I finished and I've basically reviewed everything from that list that I was inspired to write a review about.
Here's what I haven't reviewed:
* George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series - I pretty much just can't be bothered reviewing this series in any great detail. That's five great big long novels right there. It's by all means a good series, but at the end of the day (1) I'm ashamed to be reading fantasy novels and (2) the whole thing is so detailed in the way that it's driven by an intricate mess of characters and plot twists that I can't bring myself to cut-and-paste a wikipedia article to summarise the whole thing. Too hard basket.
* Phillip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly, The Man In The High Castle, and Dr Bloodmoney - Ok, A Scanner Darkly is great, I just don't have a good enough angle to allow me to write a review which I think is interesting. Same goes for The Man In The High Castle. I probably liked this one more than I liked A Scanner Darkly because of all the novel-within-a-novel business, but I just haven't been driven to write something about it. I can't for the life of me remember anything whatsoever about Dr Bloodmoney and I only read that in January this year, so that's probably the most telling review I could have ever written about it, I guess.
* Ray Bradbury's Fairenheit 451 - This book made absolutely zero impact on me. Completely forgettable. I'm not interested in taking that any further.
* Cormac McCarthy's The Road - Every single blog on the Orble network has reviewed this book. Unless I can think of some kind of hilarious way to write about it (keeping in mind that I'm genuinely stupid and unfunny), then I won't bother either. Just read someone else's and make a joke to yourself about the dad in the story being gay, and that's a decent substitute for my writing.
Otherwise, I guess I had better get reading! The other alternative is to dig around and try and remember books that I read some time ago, do some research about them to try and remember what the hell they were about, and then pretend that it's a fresh review. This is most likely going to happen as well.

Luke is better at this than me anyway (don't tell him I said that).

also, did you hear that HBO are making a TV series to George R. R. Martin's books? Each book will become 12 episodes apparently.

Why were they burning all the books again.
I can't remember.

Luke, that series could actually be pretty good. The series would translate really well to television IMO (in my opinion), but then again it could just as easily be hopelessly lame.
Damo, yeah my thoughts exactly. Who the hell knows.
